How to be VISIBLE in today’s fast-moving landscape
I just came
back from a seasonal vacation in New York. The city is fascinating. It is
constantly in movement; tourists and the New Yorkers walking through the blocks; a multitude of shops and restaurants; lights and noise, as well as cultural visits to cater for everyone’s needs. The list is
long!
What I found amazing among this dense
mass of people and lights (especially in Manhattan during the holiday season), is
that despite the crowds, people you meet are courteous and take the time to
engage with others.
New York
has character. Everywhere you go and visit, possesses its own vibration and atmosphere.
Something I
remarked among this depth of people and diversity, is how businesses market themselves
and how individuals make their own personal statement.
Times
Square is an example of global corporate adverting with its' large digital
screens and billboards. You cannot miss the brands present or what they are offering.
Nearby you have Broadway, where each show largely and graphically advertises
their presence.
Individuals
that stood out among this omnipresent movement, where those who caught your eye.
This could be for different reasons: unique in their way of dressing, a certain
charisma, a smile, a preforming street artist. Unless you have something different,
New York is probably one of the cities where you can most easily go unnoticed!
IF YOUR AIM
IS TO CREATE VISIBILITY for future employment or possibly advertising your newly
created company, YOU NEED TO FIND WAYS TO BE VISIBLE, TO THINK BIG AND TO STAND OUT FROM THE
CROWD, IN ORDER TO ATTRACT AND GROW YOUR AUDIENCE.
For this you
need to be creative, with a compelling message and offering and be willing to
work hard to be the best in your domain!
To start with,
Internet offers a free and global means of branding yourself. However, it should
be used with good sense and caution. You should know your target
audience; what interests them and the message you want to convey, all
backed with an attractive and targeted content. Not forgetting, to be human and
engaging in your approach.
The way forward
is to find your unique offering, one which proposes a real solution to fill a need, and which makes you stand out from the CROWD.
