What Does International Experience Mean in 2026?

It’s been a while.

I haven’t written anything for Third Culture Professionals since February. But while I’ve been quiet because I’ve been busy, the world of work has also kept moving and transforming.

For years, international experience has been seen as a real advantage.

- Working across cultures.

- Speaking several languages.

- Living and working in different countries.

- Adapting to different ways of thinking and working.

- Feeling comfortable when you’re way out of your comfort zone.

All valuable qualities.

But I’ve started wondering:

What does international experience actually mean in 2026?

The international workplace is changing.

AI is changing the skills employers are looking for.

Recruitment is evolving.

Global teams are working differently.

And the way we build careers across borders is changing too.

So, what does it actually mean to be a Third Culture Professional in 2026?

Over the coming weeks, I’m going to explore some of these questions from AI and the changing job market to international careers, cultural adaptability and what employers value today.

Not another series of “10 tips to get your dream job”.

Just some questions, observations and perhaps a few uncomfortable conversations about the way we work now.

Third Culture Professionals is back.

And I think there’s quite a lot to talk about.
